My Memoir

“The Addams Family”

My memoir

By DC Trimble

It was August 24, 2017 as I tugged on my socks and shoes. I was going to the play “The Addams Family” and I was thrilled! My grandma and grandpa were taking me as well as one of my cousins and we would be joining some other family there.

I heard a knock at the door and rushed to answer it. It was my cousin! Behind her in a van, waited my grandparents! “Hi!” I greeted her. Just then, my grandma and grandpa came walking up our steps. My mom, who was right next to me said, “Hi Mom and Dad. Hi Jocey!” They all said, “hi” and we exchanged hugs. Just then my brothers came running up to the door. My brother, Dek, spoke first, “Hi Grand- “Hi Jocey!” My brother Milo interrupted. “Hey, don’t interrupt me Milo!” Dek shouted. “Hi gwama, hi gwanpa!” My 2-year old brother cutely said. It was all a little bit chaotic. Jocey and my grandparents greeted and hugged us all. It was time to go so my mom and brothers then gave me hugs, said goodbye and then we were off!

On the way to the performance I spoke about how my dad was on a camping trip with the scouts and Jocey relayed that she and her dad had come here for a visit while the rest of her family stayed home. When we arrived grandma and grandpa said that their tickets were with my aunt. That’s when we realized I didn’t have my ticket! Grandpa decided to call my mom and luckily she had taken a picture of it and sent it to him. My grandma went to get in line while I showed grandpa and Jocey a picture of grandpa (from when he was in high school) that was hanging on the wall. When we got back, grandpa used my ticket so he could go in and save spots while we waited for my aunt to bring the rest of the tickets. When she and my other cousins got there she gave the front desk our tickets and we went into the theater to sit down. A couple of minutes later the show started. All through the first act I was lost in the play. The acting was so good and at intermission I was surprised with such an abrupt ending. I asked grandma,” What happened?!” She laughed, “It’s intermission honey.”

After intermission the play continued and I enjoyed the second half as much as the first. My Aunt Carisa and Uncle Perry made things even more interesting because they were able to give me insights about the play from working on the costumes and set. When the play ended I looked at my watch and it was 10:00 p.m! It had gone on for three hours! I got up, stretched, and found grandpa. As we walked we chatted about our favorite characters and scenes. The crowd was pretty dense and we struggled to get out but finally made it. We relaxed in the cool air while waiting for my grandma, aunt and cousins. When they came out we hopped in the car and drove away. When we got to my house, I thanked them for taking me and I went in. I hurried and brushed my teeth, got on my pajamas and went to bed.

I’m pleased that I could experience that and I can’t wait until the next Payson community Theater play! I hope it will be just as good as this one was. I also wish that I can be in one of their plays someday. It was a remarkable night.
